Cafetera on Wheels serves cafecito in Miami – NBC 6 South Florida
A new coffee concept has popped up in South Florida.
An idea was born at a cafecito nine months ago. Two friends looked at a cafetera and decided to build a huge one.
“La Cafetera” is approximately 13 feet high by 7 feet wide and is mounted on a trailer ready for any event or location. At the start of the holiday weekend, the administrators of the Academy of Our Lady of Lourdes rented the café on wheels as a sweet surprise for the teachers.
Inside, John Fernandez and Alexander Linares prepare the espresso and offer the Cuban classics: Cafecito, Cortadito and Cafe con Leche.
“We want to bring a smile to our faces in this time of disaster and pandemic and all that negative energy … we’re trying to shed some light on the darkness,” said Linares.
Fernandez and Linares developed the concept in 2019 and brought it to life in March 2020. When the pandemic began to brew, that didn’t stop them.
“We could have parades and the like, private events,” said Linares. “Thank goodness we were able to adapt and do things for the community.”
The friends and co-owners hope to spread the cafecito love across the country. They are already in talks to build more cafeteras.
“I’m super proud of it. ‘To this day, every time I open the garage door and see it, I say,’ Wow, we actually did this. That’s still real and it’s here! ‘” Linares said.
