DOH-Miami-Dade’s WIC Program hosts the 8th Annual Drive-Thru Holiday Homestead/Florida City Family Resource Fair

November 22 2021 – The Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County WIC Program will host the 8th Annual Drive-Thru Holiday Homestead/Florida City Health and Resource Fair at the Homestead/Florida City WIC center located at 753 West Palm Drive, Florida City, FL 33034 on Saturday, December 4th, 2021 from 10:00am – 12:00pm.

The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children – better known as the WIC Program – serves to safeguard the health of low-income pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women, infants, and children up to age 5 who are at nutritional risk by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, information on healthy eating including breastfeeding promotion and support, and referrals to health care.

For the last 7 years, this event has provided the Homestead/Florida City community access to free health screenings for children and adults, community resources and education. Last year, there were approximately 700 families who attended the drive-thru event and received a WIC resource bag and free food from Farm Share. Additionally, over 1,200 children books, 700 toys and several resources on health services were provided at the event. We had over 90 volunteers and WIC staff involved to make the event a huge success.

Due to COVID-19, this year the event will once again be Drive-Thru so that social distancing and safety guidelines can be followed. All attendees must arrive in a vehicle to participate. Families will be able to get important health information from local vendors, free food, free children’s books and toys, and enjoy music in a fun and festive holiday atmosphere.

This event would not be possible without the generous support of our sponsors and community partners.  They include Portofino Pediatrics, Community Medical Group, United Healthcare Community Plan, Healthy Start Coalition of Miami-Dade, The Children’s Trust Books for Free Program, Ambetter from Sunshine Health, Liberty Dental Plan, Simply Healthcare, FarmShare, Beautiful Minds PPEC and University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. We also want to thank all of the community partners who contributed resources for the event resource bags.
