Drunk Ohio man involved in drug sales was arrested after an attack on a Miami Beach hostel, police say

MIAMI BEACH, Florida. – A 21-year-old Ohio man faces indictment after witnesses accused him of assaulting a hostel customer in Miami Beach. Investigators suspected that the attacker was involved in the sale of street drugs.

The victim told police officers that he was at the Beds n ‘Drinks Hostel on James Ave. at around 2:25 p.m. on Monday. Had been drinking and eating in 1676 when he noticed Jason Dyer-Mitchell.

Dyer-Mitchell, of Heath, Ohio, drank from a bottle of Ciroc Vodka and was loud and disgusting before an unprovoked attack, police witnesses said.

“The defendant had a nail between his knuckles and hit the victim with it,” one officer wrote in the arrest report.

Dyer-Mitchell slapped the victim in the face and neck at least twice, and after knocking him on the ground he yelled at him on the arrest form before leaving.

Several witnesses followed Dyer-Mitchell, called 911, and one stayed on the phone until police arrested him on Lincoln Road and Drexel Avenue.


Dyer-Mitchell, wearing a red T-shirt and gray shorts, still had the vodka bottle and a black backpack filled with cash and illegal drugs, police said.

Dyer-Mitchell was arrested Monday and stayed at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Wednesday.

He is alleged to have damaged the battery with a lethal weapon, possessing ecstasy, possessing more than 20 grams of marijuana, possessing marijuana for sale, and having an open container of alcohol.
