Evening flight coaching deliberate in Decrease Florida Keys | Native information
The U.S. Navy will conduct a field porters division on the Boca Chica field of Naval Air Station Key West Friday through Sunday, April 9-11.
The FCLPs are scheduled during the published flight hours from NAS Key West and on weekends from 7pm to 10pm.
This training is required for all Navy and Marine Corps Airmen before actually landing on aircraft carriers at sea. Boca Chica Field has two runways that are painted and lit to simulate the deck of an aircraft carrier. A third runway is painted but not lit.
“This type of training provides Airmen with realistic porter landing practice,” said Mark Sohaney, commanding officer of Key West Naval Air Station, Capt. “It’s a high intensity for the airmen, seafarers who work in the fields, and even the local communities, who will see an increase in noise and flight activity this weekend evening.”
Residents in the neighborhood of the Boca Chica field will notice an increase in jet noise during FCLP training periods.
“We’re trying to get this information out to everyone as early as possible so residents can plan accordingly,” Sohaney said.
