ROCKLAND KEY, Florida (WSVN) – A young teenager in the Florida Keys has been charged with multiple surprise thefts.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of a 13-year-old boy Friday morning.

According to MPs, the boy, who had previously been arrested in Miami-Dade County the week before, was arrested in a stolen car on Friday morning.

“I’m glad we were able to stop this young man without anyone getting hurt,” said Rick Ramsay, Monroe Sheriff. “I would like to thank our friends at Florida Highway Patrol for their partnership in this incident. Hopefully this young man can get the help he needs to improve his life before he becomes firmly established in the criminal justice system. “

MPs said the teenager was detained at US 1 in Rockland Key. Investigators said a stolen pistol and two stolen credit cards were found in the Dodge Challenger, which were reported stolen Friday morning.

MPs said the teenager stole a Toyota Corolla from Crane Boulevard on Sugarloaf Key and drove it to Big Pine Key on Friday morning. Inside the vehicle was a credit card that the teenager had used at a gas station in Big Pine Key.

Investigators said the teen then dumped the Toyota, broken into another vehicle, and stole a second credit card. Then he is accused of stealing the Dodge Challenger.

The teenager was eventually taken into custody and has since been charged with two cases of armed vehicle theft, armed burglary and theft of a firearm.
