Girl killed with shotgun in gunfight in Miami Shores

MIAMI SHORES, Florida. – Several police vehicles were at the scene of a shooting in Miami-Dade County late Monday afternoon.

It happened in a quiet residential neighborhood in Miami Shores, near the intersection of Northwest 95th Street and 1st Avenue.

The officers responded to a disturbance call at a house that Miami Shores police said they had been to before.

In front of the house, near the road, was a yellow tarpaulin covering a corpse.

According to Miami Shores Police, the victim is a woman in her forties with a mental illness.

According to police, the gun she had was a black ball pistol. She pointed it in the direction of the officers who responded, according to Miami Shores police.

“The gun was aimed at the officer. The officer, feeling concerned about his safety, shot the victim, “said Kevin Lystad, Miami Shores police chief. “I know there was some dialogue about the gun and dropping the gun.”


The Miami-Dade Police Department was also on hand to assist the Miami Shores Police Department.

Family members identified the woman as 48-year-old Etianna Planellas. They told Local 10 News Planellas was drunk when she got outside and that she was shot dead in front of her elderly mother.

Family and relatives who were there describe the police’s actions as abusive and excessive.

A neighbor who also lives on Northwest 95th Street told Local 10 News that he heard what sounded like quick gunfire.

Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating what is common in police shootings.
