Homestead, Florida City See Lowered Criminal Activity Says New Statistics | News

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement released their 2014 crime rates and some areas in South Dade saw a decrease.

Overall Miami-Dade County saw a drop of 4.4 percent from last year’s rate.

Florida City’s crime rate dropped 17 percent.

Homestead’s crime rate dropped 12 percent according to FDLE.

The report found that CutlerBay went up six percent, and PalmettoBay went up 12.6.

The biggest swing in the county goes to the small village of Bal Harbor which reported an upswing of 47 percent, but that is relative to its small size and the amount of crimes logged.

In FloridaCity burglary went down to 173 instances from 317 in 2013. Larceny was slightly down to 883 from 981 in 2013. Motor vehicle theft was also slightly down to 43 after being 58 the previous years. Florida City did have a significant rise in Forcible Rape, reporting 9 in 2014 instead of just 1 in 2013. The number of murders, one, remained the same.

In Homestead burglary went down to 748 from 900. A slight dip in larceny from 2,223 to 2,111. Motor Vehicle theft saw it drop to 104 from 151. There were 40 less robberies and 10 less aggravated assaults reported. (300 Robberies and 530 Aggravated Assaults in 2014) There was one more murder in the city limits at 3. Forcible Rapes remained just about the same at 29 from the previous 32.

Overall this year marked an 44 year low in crime rates for Florida.
