Husband and spouse are each on alert after being shot useless in Miami

MIAMI – Miami Police are investigating a double shootout on Wednesday morning.

Miami Police Officer Michael Vega confirmed that the incident occurred just before 6 a.m. in a gray two-story complex near Northwest Second Avenue and 17th Street.

Vega said officers arrived at the scene after receiving a ShotSpotter alert and discovering that two people, a man and a woman, had been shot.

Vega said the man was shot in the stomach area and the woman in the back and shoulder.

He said both were vigilant and conscious when they were taken to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

The identity of the victims has not yet been disclosed, but authorities have confirmed that the woman is in his early 20s and the man in his mid 40s.

“We’re looking for a black male suspect dressed all in black,” said Miami Police Chief Art Acevedo. “Not an approximate age yet.”

Acevedo said her preliminary investigation showed it may have been a narcotic situation.

The shooting occurred less than half a mile from Phillip Wheatley Elementary School.

Anyone with additional information is encouraged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
