K9 arrests suspected drug traffickers in Florida Keys

KEY WEST, Fla. – A Key West woman finds herself exposed to methamphetamine trafficking and other drug charges after a bust supported by K9 police officer Coral, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Brandy Victoria Gesell, 38, was arrested on Big Pine Key Thursday night after a traffic obstruction.

MPs say their Toyota Camry had expired tags and Coral then drew attention to drugs in the car.

Authorities then say they found the following in the Camry:

  • 3.7 ounces methamphetamine

  • 1 gram of cocaine

  • 8 grams of marijuana

  • 2.5 Xanax pills

  • A digital scale

  • 2 glass pipes

  • Plastic bags often used to sell drugs

In addition to being charged with human trafficking, Gesell is also charged with possession of cocaine, marijuana, possession of a controlled substance (pills) without a prescription, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Coral joined the Monroe County sheriff’s office last fall, and it wasn’t long before she started collecting drug busts.

In January, she was also credited with helping catch a suspected cocaine trafficker.
