Miami-Dade detective in search of boys’ murderers: “They have been cowards”
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Detectives are looking for the shooters who killed 3-year-old Elijah LaFrance and wounded a 21-year-old woman after the boy’s birthday party on Saturday night in the Golden Glades neighborhood of Miami-Dades.
The scene was outside the house Elijah’s relatives rented from Airbnb to celebrate his birthday near the intersection of Northeast 158th Street and North Miami Avenue.
According to Detective Kevin Thelwell, Elijah stood in the doorway of the house while his parents and other family members cleaned the front yard.
“Unidentified people armed with various semi-automatic weapons, including two rifles, arrived on site and began unloading the firearms,” Thelwell said in a video the Miami-Dade Police Department tweeted Monday afternoon.
Police who responded to a ShotSpotter alert took Elijah and his parents to a nearby hospital, where a doctor pronounced him dead. Thelwell said there were more than 60 cartridge cases at the scene after the fatal shooting.
“That was despicable. That was careless … They were cowards, “Thelwell said, adding,” We don’t know who these issues are. We ask for the help of the community … I don’t care if you heard anything on the street. I need someone to call crime fighters. “
MDPD announced that the reward for information leading to arrests in the case has increased to $ 15,000. Detectives have asked anyone with information about the shooting to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
