Miami police continue search for man who sexually assaulted woman at bus stop

MIAMI – Miami police are pleading with members of the public to come forward if they have any information about a sexual assault that occurred a couple of months ago.

As of Thursday, the identity of the suspect remains unknown.

According to authorities, the woman, who is homeless, fell asleep on a bus bench the night of Aug. 15 in The Roads neighborhood off Southwest Third Avenue and 18th Road.

She was awakened around 1 am the next morning by a man placing his genitals in her mouth, authorities said.

Officer Kiara Delva, a Miami police spokesperson, said surveillance video shows the suspect exiting a dark-colored pickup, possibly a Chevrolet Silverado, and approaching the victim on foot.

“According to the victim, while she was sleeping on the bus bench, she was started by a (man) standing over her who had placed his genitals in her mouth,” Delva said. “(She) began shouting for help and alerted a nearby witness who ran to her aid.”

Police described the suspect as a white man, approximately 30 to 50 years old and roughly 5-foot-8 with a protruding stomach. He had long gray hair pulled back in a ponytail and facial hair with gray sideburns.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Miami Police Department’s Special Victims Unit at 305-603-6300 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
