Mildred Parish | Obituary | The Daily Star

ONEONTA – Mildred Helen Parish, 93, of Oneonta, passed away Friday, July 22, 2022, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.
She was born May 21, 1929, in Oneonta, the daughter of the late Lee G. and Helen M. (Ferguson) Parish.
A lifelong resident, Milly graduated from Oneonta High School with the Class of 1947 and from State University of New York Teachers College at Oneonta in 1951.
She began teaching fourth grade students at Bainbridge-Guilford Central School in 1951. Milly retired from teaching in 1984.
Milly enjoyed reading, particularly history, music and frequently attended concerts at Glimmerglass, went antiquing as she was an avid antique collector, traveled, did needlepoint and was an enthusiastic gardener.
In her retirement, Milly was an active member of several clubs and organizations and served on many boards. She was a member of the PEO, the Garden Club, First United Methodist Church, Oneonta, where she served as a trustee, and was an active member of United Methodist Women. In 2016 she was honored as a volunteer at A.O. Fox Hospital for more than 30 years of service as a volunteer, in addition to serving as secretary on the hospital foundation board until 2017. She served on the SUNY Oneonta College Foundation Board of Directors from 2004-2012. But what Milly was most proud of was Milly’s Dream. She had the foresight in the 60’s to envision The Plains at Parish Homestead and finally in 2007 with a ground breaking ceremony it became a reality. She was an instrumental adviser in the planning and design of the facility.
Mildred is survived by her niece, Mary and husband, Greg Buol, Garner, North Carolina; nephew, Richard Deighton, Dade City, Florida; great-niece, Ashley Buol, Garner, North Carolina; and cousin, Dale Tarver, Napa, Idaho.
