People expose themselves to sunbathers within the Florida Keys

MARATHON, Fla. – A 57-year-old man was arrested Friday night for exposing himself to two women and a 4-year-old child in Veterans Memorial Park in Little Duck Key.

The victims said they were sunbathing with their family around 4:13 p.m. when they noticed a man who was later identified as Julio Roberto Melendez Chavez of Marathon and was sitting unusually close to them. They told the MPs they found it strange as the park was almost empty.

When they turned to the man, the two sun worshipers said they saw the suspect masturbate. The women told MPs that they grabbed the child to cover his eyes.

The suspect then went around and took pictures with his cell phone, witnesses said.

A witness in the park took photos of the suspect and the pickup truck that reportedly left the park while Melendez Chavez was driving.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s MPs stopped a truck that matched the description going north in Marathon.

Both victims identified Melendez Chavez as a suspect. The truck also matched the photos taken by the witness.

Melendez Chavez was sent to prison. He has been charged with lascivious and lascivious offenses in the presence of anyone under the age of 16 and disorderly behavior.

Police records show the suspect was arrested in 2018 for cyberstalking and sexual assault on a “mentally defective” person, as stated in Florida Statute 794.011 (b).

In 2011, according to police records, he was accused of publicly exposing himself.
