Suspect in the assassination of the President of Haiti in federal court in Miami
MIAMI – One of the prime suspects in the murder of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse is now in US custody and is expected to appear in federal court in Miami.
Records show that Mario Antonio Palacios Palacios is due to be charged on Tuesday afternoon, making him the first person to be officially charged with the murder.
Palacios was previously held in custody in Jamaica before being deported to Colombia, but was apparently taken to the United States instead. His alleged role in the plot to kill Moïse has not yet been revealed.
Moïse was shot dead in an ambush in his home on July 7th. His wife Martine, who was taken to Miami for treatment, was also injured in the shooting.
In connection with the attack, investigators arrested dozens of people, some of whom have connections to South Florida.
