The 22-year-old man kills his 39-year-old uncle Rodne Nalien in Miami Gardens, police say

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – A Haitian-American family is in mourning Wednesday after a 22-year-old man fatally shot his 39-year-old uncle Rodne Nalien in the chest in Miami Gardens on Tuesday, police said.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel pronounced Nalien dead. He was the father of three girls, a beloved musician, and a businessman who loved Caribbean food.

Officials arrested Jimmy Desir, who turned 22 in December, on Tuesday. Records show that proofreaders booked him at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Wednesday.

Desir later appeared before Judge Mindy S. Glazer of the Miami-Dade Circuit during a virtual hearing Wednesday afternoon.

The shooting took place at apartment 204 in Crossings, a rental community near the intersection of Miami Gardens Drive and Northwest 27th Avenue, police said.

Desir is charged with second degree murder with a gun and detained without being bonded.
