The melee on Ocean Drive calls on Miami Seaside officers to fireplace pepperballs on the crowd

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A melee street combat on Ocean Drive between Seventh and Eighth Streets caused police officers to fire pepperballs on Thursday night in South Beach to disperse a crowd.

The officers arrested at least three people. Miami Beach Fire Rescue personnel responded to help the few injured. Workers in nearby restaurants cleaned up the mess.

Spring breakers forced the Miami Beach Police Department to seek help from other law enforcement agencies, including the Miami-Dade and Coral Gables Police Department. Miami-Dade Corrections staff will assist with on-site booking and transportation to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

Most of the arrests made since February 3 were in the busy area of Ocean Drive and on Collins and Washington Streets between Fifth and Sixteenth Streets.
