The Miami Tremendous Bowl Host Committee proclaims Tremendous Bowl LIVE sustainability companions
The Ocean to Everglades (O2E) initiative of the Miami Super Bowl Host Committee (MSBHC) has focused on highlighting the unique and precious environment of South Florida. Through this partnership with the Everglades Foundation, Ocean Conservancy and NFL Green, MSBHC has raised awareness of the many challenges and opportunities in South Florida to protect our natural resources and the native wildlife that depend on them.
To further expand its commitment to sustainability, MSBHC partnered with several other companies at its Verizon-unveiled Super Bowl LIVE marquee event to ensure its carbon footprint responsibility.
“It’s important not only to educate the public about the value of our natural resources, but also to be responsible for our own actions on the ground at Super Bowl LIVE,” said Rodney Barreto, chairman of the Miami Super Bowl Host Committee. “We are committed to ensuring that our guests enjoy a clean environment while protecting Miami’s beautiful Biscayne Bay.”
MSBHC has several partners who have provided sustainable goods as well as environmentally friendly services, including Clean Vibes, LLC. The Clean Vibes staff arrived at Bayfront Park on January 6th and have worked closely with the City of Miami to keep the park clean every day. “Clean Vibes is honored to be a part of this event and to work with the Miami City Solid Waste staff to ensure a clean and green Super Bowl LIVE. The MSBHC partners involved in our sustainability efforts:
- Brightline is offering Super Bowl LIVE, presented by Verizon attendees, the option to leave their cars at home to reduce emissions.
- The Miami City Solid Waste Department is on hand to keep the site clean and organize the trash and recyclable materials.
- Clean Vibes is working to separate recyclable materials and garbage and to divert those materials from our waterways and landfills.
- Footprint offers sustainable food options and can be viewed in the Environmental Village.
- FreeBee offers electric cars for getting around Miami.
- Innovative Group is the MSBHC concessionaire offering the sustainable food selection and presenting Taste of Redland Culinary.
- The Miami-Dade County’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces is working closely with MSBHC’s Senior Event Producer Maureen Luna to ensure that large quantities of materials such as astro-turf, mesh and lumber are produced after the event for used by the public.
- The Miami-Dade County’s Department of Solid Waste will convert Super Bowl LIVE trash to energy at its resource-recovery facility, which processes 68% of Miami-Dade County’s waste.
- Perry Ellis produced MSBHC volunteer uniforms from sustainable fabrics.

Brightline – www.gobrightline.com – From the very beginning, Brightline has been committed to implementing green initiatives across the company and has a strategic partnership with Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) to bring clean biodiesel to trains. The Brightline stations in Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach are equipped with FPL SolarNow trees. A solar roof is planned for Miami that will generate clean, renewable energy. The network and shade for the guests as well as charging stations for electric vehicles are available in all garages of the station. Since the service began operating in January 2018, nearly two million residents and visitors have turned to Brightline for the stress-free way of getting around South Florida. In February, Brightline journeys will also be carbon-free as FPL has earned enough renewable energy credits to offset the carbon emissions of all trains.
City of Miami – www.miamigov.com – The City of Miami is committed to resilience and sustainability. The city recently launched the Shores Forward in partnership with Ocean Conservancy. Under this program, the city will focus on pressing issues including: water quality, marine animals, education and outreach, marine debris and carbon pollution. The city has also generously staffed Super Bowl LIVE with conscientious staff working to keep the grounds clean.
Clean Vibes – www.cleanvibes.com – Clean Vibes is a company dedicated to reducing the ecological footprint that is left after events and festivals. During this week’s events, Clean Vibes will be working with the Department of Solid Waste of the City of Miami and Miami Dade Parks and Recreation to distract recyclable and reusable materials from entering the landfills. By educating the public and providing more sustainable alternatives like recycling and composting, this organization hopes to create a generation of responsible stewards for our planet. Since its inception, Clean Vibes has diverted approximately 21,000,000 pounds of waste from landfills across North America.

Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation, and Open Spaces – www.miami-dade.gov – Miami-Dade Parks is the third largest county park system in the United States. In total, it comprises more than 13,573 acres, including 270 parks, and they intend to leave a green legacy after the NFL’s 100th season celebrations. Throughout the season, the parks will participate in a number of initiatives that focus on building community gardens, restoring native vegetation, and recycling.
Miami-Dade County Solid Waste Division – www.miamidade.gov – Covanta-operated Miami-Dade County resource recovery facility spans 160 acres in Doral, Florida. The waste-to-energy plant is responsible for converting more than 3,000 tons of solid waste into 1,200 tons of biomass fuel per day. By implementing this waste-energy program, the facility can reduce the amount of waste it receives to just 10% of its original volume. The biomass fuel obtained from the waste products enables the plant to produce 77 megawatts of electricity to meet the electricity needs of around 35,000 households.
